Il Museo Pio Clementino, che prende il nome da due pontefici del XVIII secolo Clemente XIV Ganganelli e Pio VI Braschi, ha origine dalla collezione cinquecentesca di statuaria antica di papa Giulio II Della Rovere. Il Museo contiene tre grandi nuclei di opere d'arte antica: la statuaria e i ritratti, le opere legate al mondo funerario come sarcofagi e are, e i mosaici. The Museum contains three large core collections of antique works of art: statuary and portrait busts, works linked to the funerary world such as sarcophagi and altars, and mosaics.
