We will begin by reviewing the definition of a solitary pulmonary nodule. • The main goal here is to gain an appreciation for what makes a pulmonary nodule likely to be benign and which features increase the probability of malignant lung disease. We will discuss the causes of pulmonary nodules. The underlying aetiology of malignant and benign lung nodules is vast and will not be the primary focus.
