Ganesha Chaturthi is a 10 day Indian festival of lord Ganesha the elephant head God with its origins in the state of Maharashtra, started by the freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak in the Pune city, where he encouraged people to do group social celebrations to bring unity to fight against the British rule starting in 1894. It has since spread all around India and outside India as well. • This Saturday I was invited as an official photographer by the Maharashtra Mandal Netherlands Mandal - organization on a paid assignment to cover their 1 day celebrations in the Amstelveen city center area which started with Dhol Tasha Zaanj orchestra the musical instruments march accompanied by the the Ganesha Idol procession and establishment in the Gementee city hall auditorium followed by various cultural dance and musical events for a few hours. • Here are some photos of the traditional Maharashtrian attire for the occasion adorned by the gracious ladies and the gentlemen who participated as the organizers, volunteers, and watched by thousands of cheerful Indian and Dutch crowd. • There was a special performance by the International Mallakhamb Federation players showing Mallakhamb, pole based Yoga and Gymnastics sports, a traditional Indian sport, as they are trying to create worldwide awareness to get it included in LA Olympics 2028 demo, and touring EU now with its newly registered head quarters in Lausanne Switzerland as a non-profit. • #maharashtradesha #ganesha #hindufestival #hinduculture #dutchfestival #ganeshafestival #indianphotographyclub #indiansinnetherlands #amstelveen #maharashtra_ig #indianculture #ganeshfestival #ganeshchaturthi #dholtashapathak #dholtasha #indianladies #indianethinicwear
