Shou-sugi ban--also known as Yakisugi--is a traditional Japanese technique for treating siding that was used on the Flexhouse in Portland, Oregon. This video features the home's owner Ajna Lichau and Ray Anthony Barrett talking about their decision to use and their process for implementing this technique. The house was designed by Michele Jeresek (Architect, Departure Design, www.departure-design.com) and built by JRA Greenbuilding (http://www.jragbc.com/). • For other PCC-produced sustainable design and construction videos, go to this playlist: •    • Making a Better City: Sustainably Des...   • The production of this video is supported by the National Science Foundation under grant No. 1104298. • Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this video do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation. • Video produced by Portland Community College's (L)OCATE Project and Video Production Unit. • (L)OCATE Project Team: • Todd Sanders (Prinicipal Investigator) • Heidi Sickert • Denise Roy • http://www.locate-stte.org/ • Video Production Team: • Denise Roy, Producer • Michael Annus, Producer, Direction, Camera, Sound • Lucia DeLisa--Editor • http://www.pcc.edu/resources/video-pr...
