In this Science and technology video in Hindi we explained the working of refrigerator or fridge. It works in the principle of the second law of thermodynamics. When a hot and a cold body are in contact, heat is transferred from the hotter to the colder body and the hotter body gets colder. The evaporator coil carries very cold fluid in liquid form, which absorbs heat from the objects placed in the refrigerator. This fluid is called the refrigerant or refrigerator gas (e.g., R 410 A which is a mixture of difluromethane and pentafluroethane). • Fridge has some other parts like, compressor, condenser coils and expansion chamber. • The compressor takes low pressure gas and compresses it increasing its pressure and temperature. Then the hot and pressurized gas passes through the condenser coils and get condensed. i.e., becomes liquid and loses its temperature by dissipating energy in the surrounding. The liquid passes through the expansion chamber through throttling process and becomes very cold. That cold liquid passes through the evaporator coil.
