Simple Depth Guide For Kreg Hinge Jig

Got this Kreg hinge jig for our recent media unit build, and had difficulty setting the depth to accommodate the 13mm hinge cup hole specified by Blum. • So I made a depth guide to help me quickly set the depth in the future. • I used a 15mm ply offcut (the forstner bit centre spike is 2mm, so this will give 13mm cutter depth). • Cut a partial hole in the ply using a hole saw. Don't go the whole way through because it makes subsequent steps easier. Flip the ply and cut another partial hole. • The Forster bit shank is 12mm, so I redrilled the hole saw hole with a 13mm bit. • Finish the hole cut with the hole saw. Keep the circular offcut and cut to the edge of the 13mm hole on one side. This makes it easy to clip on to the Forster bit shank. • Clamp the jig down to the workpiece so the Forster bit tip is resting on the workpiece. Clip on the depth jig. Tighten the depth stop with the Allen key. • Attach the drill and you're good to go. • If you're using hinges other than Blum, find out the hinge cup depth from manufacturer website and follow the same process. • Hope it helps someone. • #woodworking #carpentry #tips
