It not only affects the skin but also socially and mentally affects a person. It makes a patient feel depressed and weak. • Leucoderma is a english word, Leuco means white and derma means skin. Any normal white patch on the skin which can occur due to infection or sun exposure is called Leucoderma. It is also known as hyper pigmentation. While in vitiligo, a person suffers from multiple white patches on the skin and this occurs due to lack of melanin production in the body. Melanocytes are unable to produce melanin and results in uneven skin tone in Vitiligo. • Vitiligo is a hereditary disease and can occur in patients suffering from stress, diabetes and thyroid. White patches usually occur in children due to infection and are visible on cheek area. Vitiligo patches are on glabilar, lip and nasolabial folds region . • Patches of vitiligo are generalised or localised. Generalised patches are all over the body while localised patches are only on one side of the body. Patches of Vitiligo are found at nerve endings in the skin. Vitiligo involves hair in the patches while leucoderma do not involve hair. Vitiligo is non contagious and do not spread from one person to another.
