In this video the Fall of Yugoslavia (also known as: the Breakup of Yugoslavia) will be explained. Josip Broz Tito ruled Yugoslavia with the slogan Brotherhood and Unity. Under the surface nationalists sentiments lingered. These sentiments surfaces after Tito's death when economic decline led to shortages. This culminated into four Yugoslav Wars during the 1990s: • 1 Ten-Day War (1991) • 2 Croatian War of Independence (1991–1992) • 3 Bosnian War (1992–1995) • 4 Kosovo War (1998–1999) • • The YPA/JNA (Yugoslav People's Army) was ordered to secure Slovenia's borders which led to skirmishes with the Slovenes. After 10 days an agreement, the Brioni Agreement, was signed. In October 1991 the last Yugoslav troops left Slovenia. Meanwhile the Republic of Macedonia declared itself independent and managed to get away unscathed. • In June 1991 also Croatia declared itself independent. One year earlier several Serbian regions inside Croatia declared themselves autonomous region. This was known as the Log Revolution. These territories claimed themselves in 1991 as the independent Republic of Serbian Krajina. In januari 1992 Serbian leader Slobodan Milosovic and Croation leader Franjo Tuđman came to a cease fire with help of European mediation. Basicly both gentlemen had what they wanted: with the integration of Serbian Krajina the concept of a Greater Serbia, Milosovic goal, would become a reality and Croatia got its independence. It also gave Tuđman time to modernize his army. • Speaking of war crimes, lets look at the most complicated and perhaps grueling war of the four Yugoslav conflicts: the Bosnian War. Early 1992 Bosnia and Herzegovina declaired itself independent. Bosnia was a mixed territory with 44% muslim (Bosniaks), 31% Serbians (Bosnian Serbs) and 17% Croats After independence the Bosnian Serbs declared Republika Srpska, loyal to Serbia and the Bosnian Serbs launched their attack to get as much territory and gained 70% of Bosnia. This went along with much brutality: mass murder and mass rapes occured. The Serbs even ran concentration camps, like Omarska camp where Croats and Bosniaks were interned and systematically mistreated, tortured and murdered. These camps were set up as a strategy of Radovan Karadžić to ethnically cleanse the Serbian territories. The once so vibrant capital of Sarajevo was besieged by the JNA (Yugoslav People's Army) and later the Bosnian Serbs. This siege of Sarajevo lasted for almost four years. • The world was shocked and the United Nations knew it couldn't stand idle. They had to do something. Screbrenica was one of these muslim enclaves the UN vowed to protect. A promise the UN did not live up to. In July 1995 the Bosnians Serbs, led by war lord Ratko Mladić overran the enclave. The United Nations Protection Force in the enclave consisted of 400 light armed Dutchmen did not put up armed resistance and before their eyes 7000 muslim men and boys were deported by the Serbs only to be never seen alive again. Images of Dutch commander Thom Karremans toasting with Mladic and partying Dutch soldiers after the tragedy had passed, led to a world wide outrage. • Kosovo was an autonomous regions within Serbia. The Serbian forces used exsesive violence and soon reports of massacres of Kosovar civilians occured. This was the direct cause for NATO intervention: the NATO bombings. After the bombing Serbian president Milosovic ordered his troops to leave Kosovo and Kosovo became now under administration of the UN. Milosovic would later be arrested and tried for war crimes. • History Hustle at Home presents: The Fall of Yugoslavia - The Four Yugoslav Wars Explained. • • SUPPORT ME ON PATREON ► / historyhustler • SUBSCRIBE ► / @historyhustle • INSTAGRAM ► / historyhustle • FACEBOOK ► / historyhustler • • CHECK OTHER VIDEOS ABOUT THE BALKAN • Bulgaria during WW II: • • Bulgaria during World War II • Serbia during WW II: • • Serbia during World War II (1941 – 1945) • The Life of Tito: • • Josip Broz Tito: Hero or Villain? • • IMAGES • Images from commons.wikimedia.org. • MUSIC • Division Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) • Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License • http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... • Devestation and Revenge Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) • Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License • http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... • Lost Time Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) • Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License • http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... • Failing Defense Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) • Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License • http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... • SOUNDS • Freesound.org. • • Wanna join forces and do a collaboration?
