Decollate snails, Rumina Decollata, are sold over the internet and at garden centers, particularly in Southern California. Decollate snails are ideal for total snail control over the long term in landscapes and citrus orchards. I started selling and harvesting Decollate snails in 1996 and I did one of my college research papers on them for Ag class. • The problem with Decollate snails is that there is a small fly that is a parasite to them, other flies will attack them too, and this fly will kill of Decollate snails that are poorly packaged. When I sell Decollate snails to retail outlets I put the packing date and a 45 day expiration date, after that period the packages should be rotated out of the store. If you purchased yours and the Decollates are in package other than a Tyvek surgical bag, the Decollates are likely to be of low quality. • To wake up your Decollates and check to make sure you have got what you paid for place them in a try or bucket with 1/4 of water. They should wake up within 15 minutes, anything left over is not viable. Then toss the predator snails into the shade of the release area or wait until the evening. • The Decollates will go to work on hunting down Brown Snails and their egg masses. - Chris • You can purchase these awesome predators at http://www.theladybugco.com/Decollate...
