To check messages from the phone, press the Message key. Listen is the first menu item, you can see at a glance the call count reads, one New message, zero Old, and three Saved messages. You need to use the navigation up and down buttons to view the other options. The first time you log into your voicemail, you should setup your Message, Greeting Passcode. The system prompts will walk you through this setup.
