I've seen this HD Freeview box with PVR functionality a few times on various retail sites and wondered if they were any good and eventually bought myself one to play about with it. Why do I need one ? Well my TV whilst being HD only has a built in SD (standard definition) tuner and I wanted to watch the available HD (high definition) channels but didn't want the expense of buying a new TV. Also this box us said to have a PVR (personal video recording) feature that would be useful if I was out when a programme I wanted to see was being shown. The thing that made me wonder if this would work was it's price, £24.95 at the time I'm writing this review, surely this can't be good at this price ? • This iView HD Mini Freeview set top box come in a small box along with:- • 1 x Warranty card • 1 x UK mains adaptor plug • 2 x AAA batteries • 1 x Plug-in IR sensor on a cable • 1 x User guide • 1 x IR remote controller • The box itself is very small measuring 12 x 7 x 2 cm and weighing 99.8 g. The thing you notice straight away is that there is a SCART plug incorporated into it's design meaning that this box can be used with older TVs which don't have HDMI ports. The connections on this box:- • 1 x SCART plug • 1 x HDMI port • 1 x Aerial input socket • 1 x Aerial output socket • 1 x USB port for the external storage needed to record TV • 1 x Power in socket • 1 x Socket for the Infra-Red sensor's cable. • As my TV has HDMI ports I connected the box that way, then plugged the roof aerial into the box and continued with the first time installation process. I've had plenty of experience setting up similar devices and this was really straightforward, just make sure that you'll plugged in the IR sensor and have it pointing toward you and the set-up is fairly self explanatory and the channels have tuned in after a few minutes. • The box tuned into all the usual channels plus all of the free HD channels so I was happy with that then I checked through the 7 sections in the menu and that was all straightforward too. The interesting thing now was to try the video recording feature. First of all I have to say that this box has no internal data storage so to use the PVR function you must plug in a memory stick or an external hard drive into the USB port. • You can record in three different ways:- • 1 - Press the record button when the programme starts • 2 - Whilst in the EPG (electronic programme guide) highlight the programme the confirm the recording. • 3 - Use the timer function and manually set the recording by date, time, channel and duration. • I plugged a 32 GB memory stick into the box and made a few recordings of both HD SD to test the quality and was very satisfied with the results. From my tests in average HD recordings take up approx 2.6 GB per hour and the SD recordings use approx 1.9 GB per hour. Also when external memory is plugged into the box you can pause live TV if your TV viewing is interrupted. Also this box will play your own media, video, photos and music, and I've tried it with various popular video formats and they all worked so in addition to being a HD Freeview set top box / PVR this is also a multi-media player ............ all for £24.99 !!! • For more information on this iView HD Mini Freeview Set Top Box With PVR Functionality, including where it can be bought and it's current price, please click on the link below:- • https://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0776... • The music used in this video is Tonight - Nicolai Heidlas and can be found here:- • • Video
