How to apply sealer to slate tiles. You want to dip your sponge in the pan of sealer turned at an angle so that you can take the sealer from the bottom of the pan not completely dipping the sponge in sealer. I prefer to use the yellow rounded edge grout sponges. The key is to apply the proper amount of 511 impregnating sealer to the slate so that it can repel any liquids dripped onto the tile. Liquids such as wine, oils, water and more, can penetrate the surface of the slate tile and damage them so getting them properly sealed is important. • Next you want to make sure you are sealing the grout as dirt, grime, and algae all can damage the grout and slate tile if not properly sealed. if sealed correctly then cleaning slate tiles will be a breeze because all the dander on the tile will be sitting on the sealer and not actually penetrating the surface of the slate. • I consider this the best way to apply impregnating sealers to indoor and outdoor slate or natural stone but you can also use a topical coating glossy sealer for indoor slate tile flooring not outdoor. • Make sure you buff the slate tile dry to remove any excess sealer as the impregnating sealers have a tendency to leave a sticky residue if puddled. You may need to apply multiple coats depending on the porosity of your specific slate tile project. And this is in my opinion the BEST way to seal slate tile floors.
