In this video, we explore the unique aspects of psychodynamic therapy, highlighting how it differs from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral approaches. While CBT and behavioral methods are highly structured, focusing on specific techniques and psychoeducation, psychodynamic therapy is more process-oriented and difficult to manualize. This approach emphasizes the awareness of feelings, challenging defenses, and helping clients engage deeply with their emotions and urges. • There are four critical steps essential to psychodynamic work: enabling clients to notice their feelings, accurately labeling those feelings, fully experiencing them, and recognizing the actions they feel compelled to take. These steps are not just therapeutic tasks but are deeply intertwined with the therapist's commitment to their client's well-being. The psychodynamic tradition is presented as a loving and respectful journey, where the therapist walks alongside the client, helping them navigate the complexities of their emotional life with mindfulness and care. • What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy? • Today, we take for granted ideas that 100 years ago were anything but obvious. We know we are more complicated than how we see ourselves. The existence of the unconscious is unquestioned. We know there are numerous influences in the world but despite that we are still masters of our own destiny. Perhaps the most revolutionary idea of all is our emotional problems are solvable. The key is talking about them. Exploring pain, as opposed to running away from it, is transformative. All these ideas arise out of the foundational works of Freud, Jung, and Adler. They laid the groundwork for psychodynamic psychotherapy. • Countless other psychotherapists have added their voices guiding new generations of therapists. No matter your theory, we are all on the same road. We are helping clients glimpse the psyche and make peace with contradictions. Unlike other therapies that focus on quickly alleviating symptoms, psychodynamic therapy is different. It sees understanding the source of pain as more important than covering up symptoms. What this therapy learned early is it's easier to mask pain as opposed to resolving it for good. • Psychodynamic therapy has powerful tools to enable transformation, self-awareness, and block defenses. Our work is to help clients stay in their emotions to not lose touch with themselves. • You can follow Yonasan Bender LCSW to access more videos, articles, and lectures on: • Patreon: •   / jerusalemtherapy   • Facebook: •   / jerusalemtherapy   • Instagram: •   / yonasan_bender   • Twitter: •   / yonasan_bender   • You can contact Yonasan Bender LCSW via: • email: [email protected] • website: www.jerusalemtherapy.org • To support the development of more content like this and help me create more courses on self help, therapy techniques, psychological well-being, and religion you can become a supporting member on Patreon. • Bio: • Raised in a rural farm town, Yonasan Bender, L.C.S.W. combines small town values with powerful training.
