I explain how to do this using the fact that the vacuum level is continuous, and explain why this must be the case. The central concept is one of band bending, and amount of band bending, described by voltages. Understanding this concept allows is the most direct and powerful way to understand MOSFET energy band diagrams. • This is part of my series on semiconductor physics (often called Electronics 1 at university).
