This spirit was first distilled in 1982 by Tom Jago of the International Distillers Vintners. And the idea was to simplify the process of making a piña colada cocktail. During this time, production was moved to the West Indies Rum Distillery Limited in Barbado Later, it was acquired by Pernod Ricard. Barbados remains the location of production today. • 01:28 Robe Appearance • This Malibu Rum is clear and oily with small bubbles. Its high sugar/syrup content leaves a good residue on the fingers. The legs are fast and thin, though the liqueur is not very deep. • 02:05 Nose • The nose is very unctuous with notes of coconut, wax and vanilla. There is not much diversity in the bouquet, nor is it very intense. • 02:49 Palate • This coconut flavored rum's palate opens with a blast of coconut, while the heart has a hint of sweet syrup. The finish has some vanilla, but overall, the taste is not very complex. Texture is quite smooth with no maturity whatsoever. • The finish is quite short, however this Malibu is quite balanced. • 03:32 Presentation Overall Experience • Malibu Original's label is unforgettable and easy to recognize from a distance. It's a simple screw top with a palm tree logo. • Malibu is a very casual drink; it won't fit into any kind of formal event nor should it be served to guests unless it's being used in a cocktail, in which case it becomes a great option. • Given the accessible price point, Malibu Rum is a great value. • 04:28 Cocktails • Since Malibu was created to simplify the process of making a piña colada, this is the cocktail where it's most appropriate. Being quite low in alcohol, you can be more liberal with your pour. Additionally, it can be used to smoothen out a white rum or as a simple mixer. • Malibu can also be mixed with pineapple juice or Coca-Cola. In just about any cocktail, it can add a bit of tropical booziness to the drink and make it quite pleasant to drink, especially as a refreshment. • Other cocktail options include a Malibu Sunset (similar to Tequila Sunrise) or Fruit Punch (with a coconut twist). • 05:18 Pairings • When it comes to pairing Malibu Coconut Rum: this flavored pirit can be used for cooking and as an alternative to white rum in a rum cake. It could also accompany cream pies and lemon meringues. • If pairing with a cigar, consider a pleasantly refreshing and creamy Connecticut cigar. Some examples include the Nub Connecticut and the JC Newman BrickHouse Double Connecticut. • Malibu is perfectly enjoyable neat, though in most cases you're better off using it in a cocktail or a mixer. • Already tried Malibu Original Coconut Rum or have any questions?
