If you want to translate this page to your language, go ahead. • Growing Papaya is easy to do. • Take the seeds from your Papaya Fruit and wash them clean. • Let them air dry for 24 hours. • Once they are dry you will want to place them in a baggie • then put them in to the refrigerator and store them for 3 weeks. • • This will bring in dormancy and help increase germination success. • Papaya is a perennial plant that grows in tropical and subtropical climates • that have no chance of frost or freezing temperatures. • Some species can grow as tall as 30' feet or 9 meters. • Most have attractive orange, yellow or cream colored flowers. • Papayas thrive in USDA hardiness zones 9-11, • which corresponds to minimum winter temperatures of 19 degrees Fahrenheit to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (or -7 degrees Celsius to 4 degrees Celsius) • Papaya trees do poorly in wet soil so you will want to plant them in a well-draining location. • Sprouting or germinating your papaya seeds is easy • with our Paper Towel Method or even our Perlite Method to seed germination. • I have linked the videos down below if you have not seen them before. • We highly recommend using one of those methods to start the papaya seeds. • You may plant seeds directly into your garden to avoid the risks of transplanting them later. • Or you may plant them in pots to have greater control of plant arrangement • once you see which ones are sprouting. • Plant the seeds 1/2 inch or 1.25 centimeters under the surface • and about 2 inches or 5 centimeters apart from each other. • Each papaya sprout you get will either be male or female or hermaphroditic. • There is no feasible way to tell whether aplant is male, female, or hermaphroditic before planting. • Water thoroughly after planting, but do not soak to the point that standing water forms on the soil. • Monitor the moisture over the next few weeks and water as necessary, • keeping the soil slightly damp, but not soggy. • Keep at least 5 plants for a 96% chance or higher • to produce both male and female trees. • Once plants are flowering remove excess male plants. • If you have more plants than you want to end up with • wait until the plants are about 3' feet or .9 meters tall to see what gender each plant is. • The male plants should flower first producing long thin stalks • with several flowers. • Female flowers are larger and near the trunk. • In order to produce fruit you only need one male plant per 10-15 females. • The rest can be removed. • Some papaya plants are hermaphroditic. • Meaning the produce both male and female flowers. • These plants can pollinate themselves. • • Make sure not to over water the papaya plants as standing pools of water can damage them. • Please remember to Share the video and leave comments down below • to share questions and your experience with growing papaya. • • Thanks for watching my youtube video on How To Grow Papaya From Seeds - STEP by STEP
