In 1899, Edward Elgar conducted his Enigma Variations in Worcester Cathedral as part of the Three Choirs Festival. And we played it there again to open the 2021 festival – though this film was made at the Royal Festival Hall back in April that year. • • The final variation represents Elgar himself – 'Edu' was his wife Alice's nickname for him.
