The plasma membrane is a fundamental structure present in every cell, both prokaryotic and eukaryotic. Composed mainly of phospholipids, proteins, and carbohydrates, it plays crucial roles in maintaining cellular integrity and regulating the transport of substances. • The phospholipids form a lipid bilayer, with the hydrophilic heads facing the cell's internal and external watery environments, while the hydrophobic tails are oriented toward the interior of the membrane.
