Part 4 in a series of informative how-to videos of my personal experiences with photo resist etching method of making precision printed circuit boards at home • • While designing and building my first prototype of a BLDC Hub Motor Controller board for my e-bike, I documented the whole process on video from start to finish which you can now watch in HD 720p. • • In this part I show you how to etch the board in ferric chloride solution GC Electronics #22-238. • • I use various plastic developing trays Yankee 8 x 10 and 11 x 14 AgiTray. • Pour the etchant into the smaller tray and hot water in the larger tray. • I then place masking tape on the front side of the board and float it in the etching solution. • You can also use amonium persulfate crystal mixed with water as well. • Either way make sure you wear a rubber glove if you are placing your fingers in solution. • Approximate time to etch is 15-20 minutes. • Etchant can be reused many times over and over again, however it eventually get saturated and weak. • • In the next video I will show you how to tin plate your board. Check it out. • PCB Making-Part 5-Photo Resist Method... • • The last part in the series shows the completed controller as well as a few other PC boards made including CNC stepper motor driver and a couple other neat electronic projects I have built to date. • • ©Copyright 2010 D.C.
