This dive of the Climate Connections at the Ice-Sea Interface cruise will explore a new area on the Bellingshausen Sea, where the shelf break and slope are cut by several underwater gullies. On this dive we will work a transect running from a depth of approximately 975m up slope to a depth of around 541m. As before, the objective will be to collect both biological and geological samples with the ROV SuBastian. The geological samples will include both sediment push cores and rock • samples. The biological samples will include sediment samples for both macro- and meiofauna, and samples of various groups of epibenthic macrofauna, including specifically corals and sea cucumbers. Video transects will also be made to characterise the benthic communities of the area. • Expedition: Climate Connections at the Ice-Sea Interface #AntarcticClimateConnections • _________ • We livestream our ROV dives on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch! • Join us on our oceanographic missions on our other social media platforms: • YouTube:    / schmidtocean   • Facebook:   / events   • Twitch:   / schmidtocean   • Twitter:   / schmidtocean   • Instagram:   / schmidtocean   • Live data feeds from R/V Falkor (too): • Where's Falkor (too)? https://soi-vessel-tracker.web.app/ • How's the weather? https://www.windy.com/station/ship-zgoj7 • Sign up for our newsletter here: • Newsletter link: https://mailchi.mp/schmidtocean.org/s... • _________ • Schmidt Ocean Institute is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit operating foundation established to advance oceanographic research, discovery, and knowledge, and catalyze sharing of information about the oceans.
