It covers the whole of its area in the company of the dome of the rock, seventeen gates four minarets. The mosque was previously cognizant as Masjid Al-Aqsa now referred as Al-Haram Ash-Sharif or the temple mount. • Basically, the mosque was a small prayer house built by the Rashidun Caliph Umar, which was reconstructed and emerged by the Umayyad Caliph Abd Al-Malik later finished by his descendant Al-Walid in 705 CE. The mosque was renovated many times in different governing dynasties of the Islamic caliphate, few of the renovations were- its environs, vaults, facade, minarets the inward formation. • Al-Aqsa mosque was damaged quite a number of times in earthquake and reestablished by various caliphs. When the first earthquake hit the mosque and demolished it, its renovation was undertaken by the second Abbasid caliph Abu Ja’far Al-Mansur, and when the second third earthquake lesion the mosque caliph Muhammad Al-Mahdi the Fatimid caliph Ali Az-Zahir reorganized the mosque. • Let’s move on to some of the confusions regarding the mosque. Very saddening is that many people of the modern era cannot even differentiate between Al-Aqsa mosque the dome of the rock.
