The version of the video you're seeing right now is from an1897 reshoot, not the original 1895 footage that was shown to audiences in 1896. And audiences in 1896 didn't panic when they viewed it for the first time, despite a popular and persistent legend that that they did. But what many don't know is that the Lumiere Brothers, Auguste and Louis, were early pioneers of stereoscopic 3D effect. They reshot the scene again in stereoscopic 3D in 1934 and presented it to an audience in 1935. Unfortunately, despite their success at achieving a 3d effect, the technology didn't catch on at the time. Though, the legend of a panicked audience may actually stem from the 1935 screening, which might have left them slightly overwhelmed depending on how convincing the effect was. Unfortunately, we will probably never know. • Please like, comment, share and subscribe. Check out my Patreon to help support the channel. Only $2/month. • linktr.ee/HistoricalTidbits • I have merch!
