The wave velocity in the blue medium is lower than the wave velocity in the green medium. The angle of incidence is sufficiently large to prevent any transmitted wave from traveling into the green region, yet there is still an evanescent wave present in the green medium that decays exponentially with distance. The line of shadow shows the incident wavefronts, and the colored balls move along with the incident (then reflected) wave. This was created using POV-Ray.
