Piano Practice first time playing Alkan and Chopin Berceuse Beethoven Eroica Beethoven 491

Livestreamed on 2/9/24 • This was my first practice session in weeks, so I was very excited to get back to the piano. I had a lot of energy, and I went right for the Alkan. I had just learned about Alkan's Solo Piano Concerto from browsing classical music on YouTube. This piece really blew my mind. It sounded impossible, but it was impossibly good - it's like porn for advanced classical musicians. I had been so curious about this piece that I had to try it out when I got to a piano. • So Alkan wrote 12 etudes in all minor keys, and the Solo Piano Concerto comprises 3 etudes of the set of 12. So naturally, when I found the sheet music on IMSLP, I was also intrigued by the first etude in A minor, comme le vent . • I have never played any Alkan before. I probably should play some simpler works by him first. I'll see. But Alkan is surely a genius. I'm trying to branch out my horizons. • I also continued my work on Chopin's Berceuse. I still have a lot of questions about this piece. I'm not sure what the left hand is supposed to be doing. I know it's meant to be basic accompaniment, but I feel like that's too easy? I'm not sure. I also have some difficulties with making a lot of the parts smooth. And musically and narrative-wise, I'm still sorting that out. • The Beethoven Sonata #19 is coming along nicely. I'm just having fun learning it, not particularly rushing the process, but making sure that I get everything solidly. I do love the first movement a whole lot, there's a serious story being told there that I think a lot of people miss. • I also am trying to bring back the Eroica transcription.
