Welcome to I’ll Knit ( Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions! • Sign up for my newsletter here: Sign up for the DRK Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/diPxsr • In this week’s episode we cover: • 1. I am planning to cast on for the totally tessellated sock challenge and am super excited to see how far I get. I have a crawling/cruising 10 month old who has taken over much of my knitting time so I have very limited hope of finishing, but we shall see… My question is, will an “entry” still count if we make a modification to the pattern, specifically if I were to knit a tessellated shorty sock? I need more shorties in my sock drawer ☺️. • 2. Hi Andrea, I’m currently knitting your DRK Everyday Sweater. It’s my fourth sweater ever, and my second one of your sweater patterns (I kind of dove headfirst into sweater knitting, and started with colorwork sweaters and I love my Illuminate!). My question is this. When knitting the sleeves, I went up a needle size to make sure that my sleeves weren’t too tight for my comfort level. Now I’m almost ready to knit the cuff of the first sleeve. The pattern says to switch to my ribbing needle. On the body of my sweater I used the needle size called for in the pattern to do my ribbing. So should I use that needle size to knit my cuffs? Or should I just go down two sizes from the US 6 that I used for my sleeves? • 3. HI Andrea, I love watching your show so much and often will even put on older episodes in the background. Your love for spinning has peaked my curiosity and I have now taken a turkish drop spindle and taken a wheel spinning class and love it! My question is spinning related: so thinner singles need more twist than thicker singles for strength reasons. But if i draft thinner it also takes up the twist way faster than a thicker section and can easily get all kinked and then the thicker section looks almost unspun. Is this like a thing where you have to get it just right like goldilocks? I also noticed that it seemed way more pre-disposed to kink up on corriedale than targhee, which i just started trying out. I guess it's because the targhee is more springy. Anyways would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thank you! • 4. I would love to join your totally tessellated sock KAL. As I am on a budget I would like to knit from my stash, however my only changing colour yarn is a fingering weight yarn (on the thin side), while my colour A is a heavy fingering (but not sport either). Do you think that would work? Basically my changing colour yarn would be thinner than the plain one, while on your pattern it seems to be the opposite. But I love this colour combo and don't want to purchase more yarn at the moment. Many thanks for answering all our burning questions every week! • 5. Hi Andrea, I love your patterns and have knit many of them. My Weekender and Nurtured are two of my favorite sweaters to wear and I the yarn for another of your patterns in my stash. My question is about what to do when a sweater knit in the round twists to one side. I’m currently knitting on a top down summer top out of a linen/silk blend. It has a lace panel on the front and now that I’m a few inches past the arm holes I can see that the lace panel leans significantly one direction. Will this block out? Is there something I am doing to cause this to happen? Is there something I can do to keep this from happening? I know knitting in the round can naturally create this but I’ve never had this before. However, I have never knit with this blend before either.
