Why a Raspberry Pi 4 NAS might be a bad idea plus Syncthing bonus

Long story short: if you want a NAS with encrypted storage the Raspi 4 is not beefy enough to handle the load. Syncthing is too much no matter if you have a plain or encrypted file system. • Don't get me wrong, the software will work, it's just that the system will hit average loads above 4 - which is the maximum load a 4 core system like the Raspi 4 can handle without choking. In case you still want to build a Raspi 4 NAS that doesn’t choke you will have to use insecure unencrypted storage. • 00:00 Introduction • 01:43 Headless Installation • 04:36 Discovery, first time login and updates • 05:43 Install software and cypher benchmarks • 07:59 Configure Samba • 11:29 Setting up LUKS encryption • 14:10 Explaining the upcoming tests • 15:27 Test results • 17:48 Conclusion • 18:07 Syncthing • 20:03 Summing up
