Who is a wife? In Sanatan Dharma, she is Ardhangini, the 'one half of the husband'. Together, as Dampati, they are 'joint owners of the household', sharing biological, psychological, and individual dharma. The Markandeya Purana extols her as 'ardhāṅginī' or 'sahadharmiṇī', forever linked to her husband. Rukmini, praised by Krishna himself, epitomizes the ideal wife: 'Fortunately, O mistress of the house, you have always rendered Me faithful devotional service which liberates one from material existence.
