Romansh is spoken by 36,000 people, principally in the Graubünden Canton of eastern Switzerland, where it is co-official alongside German and Italian. A member of the Rhaeto-Romance family, it is closely related to other Gallo-Romance languages, such as Occitan, French, and Catalan. A literary language since at least the sixteenth century ACE, Romansh has seen a gradual increase in media production since the 1800s.
