It is considered one of the oldest Martial arts in existence, with a history dating back over 3,000 years. The name Kalaripayattu is derived from two Malayalam words: Kalari, which means battlefield, and Payattu, which means fight or practice. • This martial art is renowned for its unique blend of physical techniques, weaponry, and healing practices. It encompasses a wide range of combat methods, including strikes, kicks, grappling, weaponry (such as swords, sticks, and daggers), and even techniques for using pressure points to immobilize opponents. Kalaripayattu practitioners, known as Kalari warriors, undergo rigorous training that emphasizes flexibility, strength, agility, and mental discipline. • Agasthyam is the abode of southern Kalaripayattu with 200 years of experience, led by a fifth generation martial artist, the multifaceted Gurukkal Dr. S.
