It's therefore important to decide how high you'd like your D Sharp to be. If you're just getting started, it may be worth your while to try each one, but the octave you use may also be dictated by the song you'd like to play and the other notes that surround D Sharp. • Step 2: Pick the Most Convenient String • The second step you'll need to take is choosing the string you'd like to play your D sharp on. All four strings can play D#, but it's important to pick the one that's most convenient and easy to reach when you're playing a song. Also, notes played closer to the bridge tend to have a nicer tone. • Step 3: Play your D Sharp Note • Once you've picked your octave, string and fret, the only thing left to do is strum. However, you can also pluck the string if you'd like a grimier, edgier sound. For a more constant tone, try lightly strumming the string quickly with two fingers.
