In a TED Talk written entirely via Mad Libs, celebrated author and speaker Fart Montgomery issues a compelling dissection of our individual place in a collective society, and within its length and pedantry we are reminded of the filibuster, a legislative procedure in which one or more members delay or entirely prevent a vote on a given proposal. The term itself originates from the Spanish filibustero, itself a derivative of the Dutch vrijbuiter, meaning privateer, pirate, robber and this makes sense when understood in the context of it's first legislative usage, when Rep. Albert G. Brown (D-MS) argued against Abraham Watkins Venable's filibustering intervention in Cuba. In the modern American political landscape, the practice is more common for relatively extreme measures, like the current Democrat filibuster in favor of gun control occurring in the Senate.
