Following the close of Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson's Broadway musical Hellzapoppin in December of 1941, many in the original cast went on the road with Jay C. Flippen and Happy Felton taking over for Olsen and Johnson. In late 1942, Jackie Gleason and Lew Parker took over the top banana roles. George Mann was part of the comedic and acrobatic dance act, Barto and Mann. Betty Lou Barto was Dewey Barto's daughter and the sister of actress and comedienne Nancy Walker.
