Native to the forests of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. In India, the best place to spot them is in Hoolongapar Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam. • Habitat • Found in tropical and subtropical forests. • Prefer dense canopies, living high up in the trees. • Very territorial, usually inhabiting areas with plenty of trees to swing between. • Social Behavior • Live in small family groups, often a mated pair with their offspring. • Known for their melodic calls that echo through the forest, marking territory and communicating. • Calls can be heard for miles—each gibbon has a unique sound!. • Diet Feeding • Primarily frugivorous: they love fruits but also eat leaves, flowers, and insects. • Forage high up in the trees, using their long arms to swing from branch to branch. • Movement Agility • Exceptional brachiators: they move almost exclusively by swinging from their arms. • Can cover distances of up to 15 meters with one swing, almost effortlessly!. • Conservation Status • Critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching • Efforts are underway to protect their habitats and raise awareness about their plight. • #hoolockgibbon #primatesofindia
