The government earlier placed the whole country • on a general alert, tightening overnight curfew hours. Police • ordered businessmen in the centre of Sarajevo to shut their shops • and warned people off the streets. UN officials said that heavy • fighting had broken out north of Sarajevo and reported intense • mortar and artillery fire in two locations where Bosnian • government army units have been massing. They said there had been • over 1,600 explosions around the Lipa feature, which is high • ground surrounding a key Serb supply route north of the capital. • Shells also rained down on the northern Sarajevo suburb of • Vogosca.
