To listen to more of Russell Fernald’s stories, go to the playlist: • • Russell Fernald (Scientist) • Russell Fernald is a neuro-ethologist and the Benjamin Scott Crocker Professor of Human Biology at Stanford University. His research is focused on how social behaviour influences the brain. Fernald has received numerous awards for his academic work. In 1999 he received the Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award, the highest honour bestowed on researchers by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, for his distinguished contribution to neurological science. In 2003, Fernald was named a fellow in the American Association of Arts and Sciences for advancing 'science or applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished'. The prestigious Rank Prize for research optoelectronics, the Bing Fellowship for innovative contributions to undergraduate education, the Dinkelspiel Award and the Allen V Cox medal for fostering undergraduates' interest in research are among the other honours Fernald has received for his work.
