Some varieties of established Lavandula Angustifolia (also known as English Lavender) can have a second bloom in late summer or early fall. While it is usually not as abundant as the first spring bloom it’s still provides you with more flowers to provide for the bees or to harvest. • ✂️ If you have a few plants, you can use scissors or a sickle. These tools are best if you want to save the lavender for drying to use later in sachets or dried bouquets. With this method you can easily rubber band the stems together. When using a sickle, make sure to wear Kevlar gloves and always cut away from yourself. • If you have a lot of plants, using a hedge trimmer works best. This method works great if wish to distill your lavender. We find it’s best to trim around the outside of the plant and then trim the top. • 🌿 Cut the stems right above the wood and avoid leaving a lot of stem length. This will help prevent your lavender from getting “woody. Be sure to shape your lavender into a ball. • ❄️ Your last trim of the season should be 4-6 weeks BEFORE your first frost date. This will allow the new growth to strengthen and withstand the cold temperatures. • 📆 If you’re not sure when your first frost is, look Google “USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map” for more information about your climate. After you know the date, count backwards and mark your calendar for your last trim of the season! • 🧰 Need tool recommendations?
