The thermostat in your engine's cooling system is what allows your coolant to pass between the engine and radiator. If it fails in the closed position, you can quickly find yourself on the side of the road with an overheated engine. A thermostat that is stuck open won't allow the engine to reach the proper operating temperature, which can also cause issues. In either case, it needs to be replaced. Another reason to replace it, is if you've changed a major component of the cooling system such as the radiator or water pump. • On GM's venerable 5.3L V-8, it's an easy and quick job that you can do yourself in under an hour. • While I went with one quickly available from a parts store, you can easily source a GM Genuine part from a variety of places, one being RockAuto.com • GM Genuine Part Number: 15-11057 • Where to Buy: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
