1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Gasser is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. Gassers are based on production models from the 1930s to mid-1960s, which have been stripped of extraneous weight and jacked up using a truck beam axle to provide better weight distribution on acceleration. Beam axles are also lighter than an independent front suspension. These gasser cars typically had the engine swapped to a larger or more powerful one, or the existing stock engine heavily modified for more power. The name “Gasser” arose because they competed in a gasoline-fueled drag racing class, rather than more exotic methanol or nitromethane drag racing classes. This vintage ’55 Bel Air is great example of this era. The front suspension including the axle beam and the leaf springs have been chromed. The rear end has 411 gears with Moser Axles. In normal Gasser fashion, tilt the fiberglass front end forward and you will see that the engine has been upgraded to a 496 CID BBC with a tunnel ram that currently has a single Holley 4 barrel sitting on top. Differing somewhat from the norm, the Big Block Engine has been mated to a manual 5-speed. It allows this old gasser to actually cruise at highway speeds, and the engine is still turning at low rpm’s. To finish off the exterior, it has been painted in a deep gloss black, and a set chrome Cragar wheels have added. The fronts are 15 x 4’s, and the rears are 15 x 10’s with Mickey Thompson tires. The interior has also been upgraded to cloth tweed upholstery covering the seats and the door panels. Another added feature is the addition of Air conditioning, and an AM/FM Pioneer Stereo with CD player. This cool old Gasser is definitely a blend of cool old school and modern day conveniences.
