By combining native Lao prints and muted colors, he creates pieces that are organic with traces back to his roots. A white rope around the waist becomes a belt that helps tie together some of his outfits. His woven dutch hats give off a sense of earthiness. According to his website bio, the once homeless designer states Nary Manivong's design philosophy centers on that dream woman: a self-assured, sophisticated and eclectic muse who expresses herself through clothing that flows effortlessly with the demands of her everyday life. The collection is full of drama with designs that exude the essence of punk from the eighties. The show opened with anticipation, as model Alice Dellal stomped down the runway topless, wearing little more than the animal-skin drum she was beating. Always one not afraid to shock, Hogg later had a model completely naked adorned with some nipple garnishing and a daring chastity belt. Inspiration was slightly primitive and very futuristic, think David Bowie's Space Oddity mixed with Barbarella. We saw a lot of metallic body suits, constructed body suits with dramatic belted elements juxtaposed with body revealing skin tight numbers.
