Gladys Knight the Pips were an R B/soul family musical act remaining active on the music charts and performing circuit for three decades. • They started as 'The Pips' with Gladys Knight, brother Merald, sister Brenda cousins Eleanor and William Guest. • After signing with Brunswick Records in 1957, Brenda Knight and Eleanor Guest were replaced by cousin, Edward Patten and a non-relative, Langston George in 1959 and they got heir first hit Every Beat of My Heart . In 1961 they changed to Gladys Knight the Pips then in 1962 Gladys left to start a family and rejoined in 1964 until the group's disbanded in 1989 with the Pips retiring and Gladys starting a successful solo career. • Gladys Knight the Pips are multiple Grammy and American Music Award winners and are inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame • Gladys Knight has won seven Grammys (twenty-two nominations), is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has won 10 other awards.
