During the Second World War, Sir Winston Churchill was a constant figure of hope and inspiration for the British. As Britain suffered heavily during the Luftwaffe bombing campaigns such as 'The Blitz,' that caused such devastation to London, Churchill gave the people hope that they could stand firm against the Nazis and Hitler. Churchill was determined in his outlook and belief that Britain would win the war against Nazi Germany, and his speeches were a great boost to the national morale. • He had an incredibly interesting life, but his actions as the Prime Minister during World War 2 made him a hero and he's considered the greatest Briton to have ever lived. Still today he's an icon and he's seen as a symbol against tyranny. But during his life he suffered a significant degree with his health, and he was known to have suffered from at least one heart attack and a number of strokes. These caused him to spend time away recovering, but he remained strong and even returned as the Prime Minister years after he lost the election. • However he had a very severe stroke at the age of 90 in January 1965, and days later he died. All around the world tributes came flooding in for Churchill, and the Queen had also previously ordered plans for him to have a state funeral. His body lay in state for a number of days before a huge and colossal funeral took place, in which thousands attended. His funeral occurred at St Paul's Cathedral, and following this a huge procession took place with his coffin being taken down the River Thames. The spectacle of his funeral was in keeping with his iconic persona, and it was seen as a British triumph. • So join us today as we look at, 'The PAINFUL Death of Sir Winston Churchill - The UK's WW2 Prime Minister.'
