Boxing Bell

Imagine society collapses and is rebuilt. Sports become normal again, including boxing. There is a need for a boxing bell and you're tasked with designing one based on old pictures of bells before the collapse. Could you do it? • Honestly, it's not all that complicated, but it's something I thought about for a while but only just got around to now. My dad got me a 10 bell at a flea market and it was time to put it to use! It's definitely a non-trivial mechanism but it's pretty easy to grasp once you see how it's supposed to work. It's basically a pawl, or a one way lever. I made some enhancements to the designs I found, namely the two stops for the pull arm were consolidated to a single stop that allowed the arm to only go so far down or so far up, and a single attachment point for the springs. • If you're interested in more research, some terms to look up include boxing bell (duh), trip bell , and bevin bell (a maker of these types of bells). • This is a single action type of bell meaning that it must be mounted in the upright orientation in order to pull the lever downward to trip the bell. There are double action bells, but it's literally the same design except the pull lever is extended past the pivot so that if you'd mount the bell upside down you'd still have part of the lever available to pull downward to trip the bell. • This was an excellent resource for reference photos: • oldschoolfirealarms.com/trip-bells/ • Please pardon the pacing of this video. There were a lot of little tidbits near the end that I didn't think were essential to the process. Cutting 1/4 threaded rod, selecting springs, showing off the nylon washers, etc. It might seem rush-rush-rush, but there is a nice knolling shot of all the hardware I used. • I also reduced the volume of the bell strikes near the end to avoid irritation. • ► Enable closed captions for commentary • ► GIF image gallery of the build here: • https://imgur.com/a/Q2bNk • ► SUBSCRIBE : https://www.youtube.com/subscription_... • ► INSTAGRAM:   / measuredworkshop
