Chad discusses some physical and chemical properties of alcohols in this lesson. He begins by explaining how the presence of the hydroxyl group in alcohols makes them capable of hydrogen bonding which leads to significant solubility in water for smaller alcohols and relatively high boiling points. Chad then briefly speaks on the acidity of aliphatic alcohols before devoting a significant portion of time to discussing the acidity of phenols. He explains how to identify electron-donating groups and electron-withdrawing groups and their affects on the acidity of phenols. He concludes the lesson by showing the most commonly used reagents for deprotonating aliphatic alcohols and phenols. • If you want all my study guides, quizzes, and practice exams, check out my premium course at https://www.chadsprep.com/organic-che... • 00:00 Lesson Introduction • 00:27 Solubility of Alcohols in Water • 02:22 Boiling Points of Alcohols • 03:43 Acidity of Alcohols • 05:42 Acidity of Phenols • 25:40 Deprotonating Alcohols and Phenols • https://www.chadsprep.com/
