There is a position sensor, also called incremental sensor inside the servomotor. The incremental sensor in the electric servomotor is used to record the adjustment rate and position of the servomotor shaft. The recorded data are necessary to activate and control the multi-plate clutch system that engages the drive shaft. • Symptoms with a faulty BMW X-Drive are brake, abs, traction control, and 4x4 dash lights on, all at the same time; and when you start your car, you may hear a short grinding noise. The computer may also get the X-Drive completely disabled. • The BMW X-Drive Servo Motor, also called set positioning motor on some parts-catalogs, with part number 27-10-7-546-671 is responsible for actuating the BMW X-Drive system. A classification resistor, part number 27 10 7 557 345 may also be replaced with the servomotor.
