Full procedure can be found at: https://education.mrsec.wisc.edu/synt... • A ferrofluid is a liquid made of nanoscale ferromagnetic particles dispersed evenly throughout a carrier fluid. Ferrofluids become very strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. Here, Fe3O4 magnetite nanoparticles are produced by mixing Fe(II) and Fe(III) salts together in a basic solution. Here, the ferrofluid is created using a glass rod, instead of the buret variation found here: https://education.mrsec.wisc.edu/synt... • UW MRSEC ON SOCIAL • Follow UW MRSEC on Twitter: / uwmrsec • Like UW MRSEC on Facebook: / uwmrsec • The NSF-sponsored Wisconsin Materials Research Science and Engineering Center brings together teams of interdisciplinary researchers to address grand challenges in materials science. • https://mrsec.wisc.edu/ • The Wisconsin MRSEC has free, engaging educational activities for a variety of audiences. • https://education.mrsec.wisc.edu/
