How often do you take time out to celebrate? Personally, I don’t think many of us do it often enough, and I don’t know why, but I assume that perhaps we tend to minimize what we have achieved and move on to the next thing. • I have touched on this subject many times and even referred to one of my favorite books about it in the Gap and the Gain. • Recently I was teaching a class on Leading with Confidence. Part of that is being able to celebrate the success of others, because if you don’t have that confidence you don’t want to celebrate them due to jealousy, envy, or because you have imposter syndrome. • So back to celebrating a success, whether it be for you, someone on your team or a peer. How do you do that? The example that came up in class was to celebrate to the level that you would have beaten yourself up if it wasn’t a success. We often put a lot of time and effort into making sure it doesn’t happen again, going through a check list to see where things went off the track, but then spend no time recognizing the success. So celebrate as to the same level that you would have stressed over it not being a success. • Also to make it different than a normal event. Like if you say, I want to celebrate and reward myself with ice cream after dinner, but you do that frequently anyways, so it’s not really a celebration. Do something that you would not typically do on a day to day or weekly basis. • The simple practice of celebration helps you appreciate your small wins which in turn boosts your sense of confidence. • How do you celebrate, love to hear your stories, so drop them in the chat.
