Heating a sample of calcium carbonate (CaCo3) from last episode it decomposes into calcium oxide (CaO) also known as Quicklime and carbon dioxide (CO2). This process is known as calcination too and it happens above 900 degrees Celsius. • CaCO3 + heat⇨ CaO + CO2 • It is an endothermic reaction, because it absorbs heat. • If I add water to the calcium oxide (quicklime) it happens an hydratation reaction. It is an exothermic reaction, it gives off heat. • CaO + H2O ⇨ Ca(OH)2 + heat • As a product of this reaction calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) is obtained. • With a thermal imaging camera it is possible to see the heat that is produced when hydrating the quicklime. • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium... • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium... • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium... • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endothe... • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exother... • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exother... • Susbcribe ► https://www.youtube.com/subscription_... • Do you want to contribute subtitles? ► http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_p... • Cienciabit ► http://www.cienciabit.com
