In both a mole map and a skin check, we use an instrument called dermatoscope. They come in all shapes and sizes. They have magnification and illumination. This is so we can see below the top level of the skin which is the epidermis into the upper layer of the dermis. The difference between a moment and a skin check is during a mole map, we take a series of images of all lesions on the body. The reason we do this is we're able to tell at future appointments if any of these lesions have changed.
