These groups usually produced variety shows dominated by music, song and dance representing all Eritrean nationalities, as well as educational and political sketches. Stage drama became more prominent when a Section of Literature and Drama was introduced in 1981 as part of the Division of Culture in the Department of Political Orientation, Education and Culture. Women performers became increasingly prominent. • The performing arts in the EPLF featured mainly songs, posters, music, drama, and dance-related to all nationalities of the country. The Cultural Department of the EPLF was engaged in several artistic works, a great many of which reflected revolutionary themes.
