This was a real soca slam dunk in the islands. Commonly know as Tantie, It was one of his first outings with the great Leston Paul. This union started a string of hits and some of the most beautiful soca music. It is taken from Swallow's 1981 album Subway Jam, Pace Yourself. • The Mighty Swallow is undoubtedly the most preeminent Authentic Soca - True Soca artist of all time. Check out the string of hits referenced in the Tribute to Swallow docu-video, and many of the famous hits were not even mentioned. The Mighty Swallow won the Calypso Monarch title four times, the Road March title five times, and the Caribbean Calypso King Crown on several occasions in Antigua, his native land. Antigua has given the calypso world many celebrated calypsonians, including The Monarch King Short Shirt and The Ultimate Showman, King Obstinate. These calypsonians bore constant recognition in their home country. However, their international prominence seemed short-lived. • On the other hand, it was Swallow who kept Antigua in the limelight by pumping out international hits, year after year. Surprisingly, Antigua and Antiguans, for the most part, are oblivious to the prowess of their most prominently recognized and unrivaled international artist of the '80s and '90s. It was The Monarch King Short Shirt who pry-opened the international calypso door with his immortal hit Tourist Leggo. However, it was The Mighty Swallow who kept the door open for over two decades. Then Antigua gave the soca/calypso/jam band world the ever-popular Burning Flames, who rose to the pinnacle of international status. But, in the annals of Socalypso, only one man reigns supreme; all hail the King of The Golden Soca Era, Sir. Rupert Philo, The Mighty Swallow. • As per The Sunshine Caribbean Awards database/records, The Mighty Swallow has been nominated for the Sunshine Caribbean Music Awards 10 times; he won five times (the list of nominations and awards is included below). • SUNSHINE MUSIC AWARDS - The Mighty Swallow • The Sunshine Hall of Fame - 2008 - WINNER - The Mighty Swallow • Best Political Commentary - 1998 It's About Time - NOMINATED- The Mighty Swallow • Best Calypso of the Year - 1997 Don't Tease Me Tonight - NOMINATED - The Mighty Swallow • Best Political Commentary - 1997 CDC - WINNER - The Mighty Swallow • Best Social Commentary - 1997 This Antigua - NOMINATED - The Mighty Swallow • Male Vocalist of the Year - 1997 Soca Kingdom - NOMINATED - The Mighty Swallow • Arrangement of the Year - 1989 Fire In The Backseat - NOMINATED - The Mighty Swallow • Best Calypso of the Year - 1989 Fire In The Back Seat - WINNER - The Mighty Swallow • Best Engineered Recording - 1989 Fire In The Back Seat - WINNER - The Mighty Swallow • Best Party Calypso - 1989 Fire In The Back Seat - WINNER - The MIghty Swallow • Long live the legacy of The Mighty Swallow, Sir Rupert Philo. • O.C Benjamin • • Disclaimer: We do not own the rights to the songs being played.
